This week on The Stack: Meta to End Fact-Checking While X’s Content Moderation Comes Under Further Scrutiny; WWE’s Netflix Debut; Japan Announces Action Against Google   

Meta shocked many this week by announcing the end of fact-checking for its social media platforms, Instagram, Facebook and Threads. Surprisingly having taken inspiration from X, the company plans to move towards a Community Notes model, in which contributing users will decide whether posts are misleading.   

Meanwhile, the European Commission announced its intention to conclude an investigation into X’s content moderation. The commission’s preliminary findings said X’s practices were in breach of the region’s Digital Services Act. 

This week was big for Netflix too, as it finally brought WWE Raw to people’s screens via its platform. The show had its debut on the streaming platform on Monday night, marking its first time leaving linear TV. 

In recent Google-related news, the Japan Fair Trade Commission recently revealed its plans to issue Google with a cease-and-desist order. The commission has alleged antitrust violations over its search advertising revenue and pre-installation contracts with mobile operators.
