The Ad Tech Industry Sports Challenge is Back for a 4th Edition!
by News
on 29th Apr 2024 inOpti Digital, a leading advertising technology platform specialising in revenue optimisation for media publishers, is set to make a return from May 1st to May 31st with its highly anticipated sports and environmentally conscious initiative, the Opti Digital Green Challenge.
In recent times, environmental issues have gained more prominence across diverse sectors. Programmatic advertising is no exception to the rule, given its substantial contribution to carbon emissions. Activities such as ad serving, data transmission, and server maintenance entail significant energy consumption. On average, an online advertising campaign emits 5.4 tonnes of carbon dioxide, equivalent to driving a vehicle over 20,000 km.
Given the environmental impact of the organisation, Sébastien Moutte, president of Opti Digital and instigator of this initiative, underlines the company's commitment to a more sustainable advertising industry. Sébastien articulates, "While reaching a state of zero emissions within our operations may present challenges, we possess the capability to markedly reduce them.” Alongside the development of technologies aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of advertising requests, Opti Digital proudly unveils the fourth instalment of the Opti Digital Green Challenge. This event aims to promote sustainable mobility and sport by rewarding collective effort with a donation to an association dedicated to preserving the planet. With a fervent passion for sport, Sébastien acknowledges its profound role in fostering human connections. The Opti Digital Green Challenge not only promotes internal cohesion among Opti Digital members but also serves as a platform for strengthening relationships with clients and industry peers.
The Opti Digital Green Challenge is back for the fourth year running from May 1 to May 31. Participants will have 31 days to collectively cover an impressive 40,000 kilometres — a distance equivalent to the Earth's circumference — by means of walking, running, or cycling. In the previous year, this global event gathered 120 participants who collectively covered 35,000 kilometres, enabling Opti Digital to finance the planting of 1,700 trees in Tanzania through the We Forest association. This event, uniting significant publishers, technology companies, agencies, and advertisers from across Europe via an app, aims to surpass last year's achievements by rallying an increased number of participants to meet the ambitious goal of 40,000 kilometres.
This year, Opti Digital is committed to supporting the Surfrider Spain foundation, with a donation for every kilometre covered. Surfrider Foundation Spain is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to protecting and improving lakes, rivers, oceans, waves, and coastlines. Since its creation in 2007, Surfrider Spain continues to develop and facilitate successful environmental and educational initiatives that inspire action and awareness throughout our communities.
1 km covered = 30 metres of waste collected. The Goal: To enable Surfrider to finance a 1,200-metre waste collection project.
