From Rumour to Reality: Oasis Tour News Dominates Reader Interest
by News
on 5th Sep 2024 inThere have been whispers about a reconciliation for some time, but the official announcement of an Oasis reunion tour last Tuesday saw a huge surge in interest among the British public. Readership trend data from Taboola reveals that Oasis was the most popular topic among British readers during the week following the announcement, pulling in 11 million page views across Taboola’s network of UK media publishers.
This accounted for 8% of all page views over the seven days, with the next most read-about topic being Liverpool, likely thanks to last weekend’s game. It attracted 4 million views and accounted for 3% of all page views.
Interest in Oasis was highest on August 27, with 2.9 million page views on the date it was announced the band would reunite for a two-week tour in 2025. On August 31, the day tickets for the tour went on sale, page views reached 2.3 million.
To put this into context, on Sunday, when Liverpool played Manchester City, page views for Liverpool attracted 1.6 million views, while those for Manchester pulled in just 300,000.
Interest in Oasis had already begun to build in the days before the official announcement, as both Noel and Liam dropped strong hints a reunion was on the cards. After a week where page views for Oasis were less than six figures, interest jumped sharply to 350,000 on August 25 and then to 650,000 on August 26.
With two more dates now released, the tour continues to dominate many news outlets and Oasis remained the UK’s most popular topic on Monday September 2, a full seven days on from the tour announcement.
In part, the continued interest is due to complaints from fans about the way tickets for the tour were priced and sold. The UK’s advertising watchdog the Advertising Standards Authority said on Monday it had received more than 450 complaints about the ‘dynamic pricing’ used by Ticketmaster for Oasis tickets.
Dave Struzzi, communications lead, Taboola said: “Taboola’s data for the past week suggest interest in Oasis remains high despite their long absence from the touring scene. With the furore over ticket sales for the reunion tour gathering large amounts of coverage, we expect readers to continue to remain interested in news about Oasis for the foreseeable future.”
