on 8th Oct 2024 inSMRS, a culture, brand, and communications business, and Cedara, the Carbon Intelligence Platform, are excited to announce a new partnership focused on measuring and reducing the carbon footprint across SMRS’s organisation and its media investments for its clients. By leveraging Cedara’s cutting-edge sustainability solutions, SMRS will further support its commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions while supporting universities, employers, and other clients who have their own emissions reduction ambitions.
As a B Corp-accredited business since 2022, environmental sustainability has been a core focus for SMRS, its employees and its clients. SMRS will utilise Cedara’s fully automated measurement platform to assess its entire carbon footprint, covering Scope 1-3 emissions, including all media delivery, and identify emissions reduction opportunities. Cedara will further support SMRS in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting, Science-Based Target (SBTi) setting and other compliance needs.
For SMRS’ clients, Cedara will provide comprehensive emissions measurement for all of their media investments according to the new global media industry standard - the Ad Net Zero Global Media Sustainability Framework - while providing granular analytics and reduction tactics to reduce the carbon emissions of campaigns.
One of the first beneficiaries of this partnership is UWE Bristol, a university that has long championed sustainability. The institution worked with SMRS to tackle the environmental impact of their advertising campaigns and demonstrate their green initiatives to environmentally-conscious students. UWE Bristol accessed user-friendly dashboards to monitor the carbon impact of their campaigns and also onboard its media partners to better understand the emissions of their media supply chain.
"The SMRS team has been invaluable at helping us find a solution for tracking our campaign carbon emissions," said Charlotte Hopes, head of marketing, UWE Bristol. "Sustainability is a huge priority for us, so being able to easily identify where we can make positive changes and reduce the carbon produced by our marketing campaigns is an important step forward."
"We’re very proud that our partnership with UWE Bristol has always featured important innovations that lead the UK HE sector whether relating to data, insight or campaigns," said Dan Beynon, director, SMRS. "As a B-Corp, sustainability is a huge focus for SMRS and we see this collaboration with Cedara and UWE Bristol as another example of best practice that our university partners and the wider sector will choose to follow."
"At Cedara, we believe that measurable, data-driven insights are key to tackling the climate crisis," added David Shaw, CEO and co-founder of Cedara. "Our partnership with SMRS is a powerful example of how technology can drive meaningful change in the digital advertising space in collaboration with advertisers, media agencies and the broader media supply chain."
