WARC expects global adspend to exceed $1tn this year (The Media Leader)

Global ad spend is expected to grow by 10.5% to USD $1.07tn this year, crossing the $1tn mark for the first time, according to WARC’s latest Global Ad Spend forecast. North America is predicted to show the strongest growth this year, increasing 8.6%. In Europe, ad spend is forecast to rise 5%. The UK is expected to see growth of 8%. Meanwhile, APAC, the world’s second-largest market by ad spend, will see growth slow to 2%. 

Google Joins $250 Million Deal to Support Newsrooms in California (NY Times)

Google has joined a news industry trade group and key California lawmakers for this first-in-the-nation agreement aimed at shoring up newsrooms in the state. The five-year deal would let Google avert a proposed state bill that could force tech companies to pay news organisations when advertising appeared alongside articles on the tech company’s platform.
